Setting Bar-Bending Requirements for High-Strength Steel Bars

Research purpose

Limited tests are available that investigate the relation between bend diameter and the ductility, or conversely the brittleness, of reinforcing bars at bends. No such tests exist for the newly developed high-strength reinforcement having yield strengths of 80 and 100 ksi. There are three categories of experimental tests that are useful for investigating the behavior of bends in reinforcing bars, with each category of tests geared to answer a particular question:

  1. Visual inspections of bends (ASTM bend tests)
  2. Bend-rebend tests
  3. Bend tests in concrete
