FORMER FOUNDATION LEADER NAMED AMERICAN CONCRETE INSTITUTE HONORARY MEMBER

The Charles Pankow Foundation congratulates Dean A. Browning for his recognition by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) as Honorary Member, ACI's highest honor. ACI bestows Honorary Membership to a person of eminence in the field of the Institute's interest, or one who has performed extraordinary meritorious service to the Institute. Dean is recognized "for his long and outstanding service to ACI and his leadership at the Charles Pankow Foundation." Dean retired from Charles Pankow Builders in 2011 and Charles Pankow Foundation in 2013. At the Foundation, Dean was responsible for administering active research grants funded by the Foundation.

"In addition to having a highly accomplished career, Dean exemplifies what it means to be a professional civil engineer; the unselfish sharing of his skills and experience for the benefit of young engineers and society at large," said Chairman of the Board and President of the Foundation Rik Kunnath. "He has been an example and an inspiration to so many of us."

Dean served on ACI's Board of Direction as well as numerous Board and technical committees including ACI Committees 318, Structural Concrete Building Code, and ACI Subcommittees 318-A, General Concrete and Construction, and 318-B, Reinforcement and Development. Dean also was a member of the Northern California and Western Nevada Chapter – ACI, where he served as President, a member of the Board of Direction, and Co-Chair of the 2004 San Francisco ACI National Centennial Convention.

Dean began his 37 year career at Charles Pankow Builders as a Field Engineer and retired as Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer overseeing field operations. Dean is a past member of the Design Build Institute of America, and was a speaker on techniques for managing multiple design and construction disciplines during a design-build project. Dean received his BS and MS degrees in civil engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN.
