TO PROVIDE THE AEC INDUSTRY WITH A
BETTER WAY TO DESIGN AND BUILD
TO BE A CATALYST TO ADVANCE INNOVATION IN THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF BUILDINGS
The Charles Pankow Foundation leads industry collaborations, funds research, and delivers solutions that help the design and construction industry be more efficient and cost competitive. The Foundation provides resources and leadership to advance innovation.
Our vision and mission statements form the basis of research topics selected by the Foundation and the means by which the research programs are executed.
“Catalyst” is used here to imply our intent to bring both leadership and resources to the process of advancing innovation.
Charles Pankow Foundation is incorporated as a nonprofit, public benefit, charitable foundation with 501(c)(3) status and operates independently of the Pankow Companies. The Foundation carries forward the spirit of Charlie Pankow’s legacy, vision, innovation, and leadership.
The Charles Pankow Foundation was established in 2002 by Charles J. Pankow, founder of Pankow Builders and a pioneer in the construction industry. The Board of Directors elected Richard M. Kunnath as President in 2004. A nine-member National Advisory Council held its inaugural meeting in December 2005. The first two research grants were awarded in April 2006.
In 2012, the Board, Advisory Council, and staff undertook a thorough review of the Foundation’s activities and in 2013, the Board adopted new Mission and Vision Statements that reflect a more end-goal focused and strategically based research program.
The Board adopted a new 5-year strategy in 2017, called CPF2.0, to evolve from being a primary funder of innovation research to also being the acknowledged leader of cross-AEC innovation collaboration.
